NIAGARA CONSERVATION RECEIVES GRAPHIC DESIGN USA’S “AMERICAN PACKAGE DESIGN” AWARD

Cedar Knolls, NJ (January 14, 2009) –Niagara Conservation, the leading manufacturer of high-efficiency residential conservation products in the U.S., is pleased to announce that it has just received the prestigious Graphic Design USA’s annual “American Package Design” award for the packaging it created for its Water, Gas and Electric EcoKits. This award recognizes “that in this era of challenge and change, effective packaging and in-store graphics are increasingly the ‘difference makers’ in the success of a brand, a campaign, or a product.”

Says Niagara’s vice president, Carl Wehmeyer, “We couldn’t be more excited. The items in our EcoKits—faucet aerators, toilet water diverters, furnace filter whistles, draft stoppers, etc.—are not generally known for their aesthetic appeal. Yet they are crucial to two of the most prominent challenges of our times—saving money on utility bills and saving the planet. So our mission was to package these small but effective conservation tools in a way that would be eye-catching and dramatic. It is totally rewarding to see how well we succeeded. We already knew that people were buying the kits not only for themselves, but also to give away as housewarming and host/hostess gifts, and even holiday gifts. And we have been hearing that kids are fighting their parents for the boxes once the products have been removed. So we suspected we were on the right track. Now with this award we are certain of it.”

In addition to receiving the American Package Award, Niagara’s Flapperless high-efficiency toilet recently won the Home Depot Award for innovation and water efficiency. Besides wholesale sales worldwide, Niagara Conservation sells its product line on their recently launched retail Web site at www.itseasybeinggreen.com. Niagara also partners with utility companies and government agencies to provide environmental solutions for region-specific problems.

Graphic Design USA has been celebrating excellence in package design for over forty years. Their judges seek to highlight packaging that advances “the brand promise and [forges] an emotional link with the buyer at the moment of truth.”
